Lead roofs on bays and porches, and lead flashings where roofs meet walls and chimneys.

Lead is the traditional choice for small roofs over bays and porches, and for the flashings that seal the joins where a roof meets a wall or a chimney. Laid properly, with rolls that let it move as it warms and cools, it lasts for decades.
On a recent bay window we stripped the old, worn lead, built a new insulated timber frame and laid a new lead roof with rolls.
Layer by layer, from the timber frame to the flashing that seals it to the wall.
A sound, level base of new timber, insulated where it needs to be, with a gentle fall so the rain runs off.
A felt layer between the deck and the lead, so the lead can move freely and isn’t marked by the boards.
Laid in sections and dressed over the front edge into a drip, which throws the water clear of the window below.
The sheets join over rounded timber rolls, so the lead can expand and contract in the sun without splitting.
Tucked into a mortar joint in the wall and dressed down over the roof, sealing the join between the two.
